Called to Love Part – 3

1 John 4:16 —- And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God and God in him.

What person or what incident caused you to think that God doesn’t love you? Who mistreated you? What happened? We can’t change the past, but we can choose to think straight today.

Here is what that means for your life. Regardless of your past, God loves you. Regardless of your experiences, God loves you. Regardless of your failures, God loves you. Regardless of your disappointments, God loves you. He has always loved you, and His love for you is unconditional.

If you would begin to soak in that reality, what a difference it would make. Just soak in it. Let it get inside you. Let it start to flow within you. “God is love.” “He loves me.” “He wants a relationship with me.” Really, He does.

God is bigger than you think. He can handle your feelings. He just wants you to trust Him, even though you still have lots of unanswered questions. He loves you so much He sent His only Son to be your eternal Saviour and Friend. Would you like to have God as your friend?

When we were children we were confident that our parents would provide us with food and all other necessities.  If our earthly parents readily worked hard to provide for us their children, how much more should we know that God our creator loves us and He will surely take care of all our needs? But often it is because we do not “know” that we fear.

A long time ago I understood the meaning of “know” from Br. Aldred’s three-year-old daughter. We were dressing up to attend a wedding.  She had on a pretty dress. Just to fool her I wore shorts with my suit, shirt, and tie and told her to come with me. She replied, “You forgot to wear your long pants.” No matter what I did she would not come with me.  I walked all the way out to the car but she did not come. I started the car and came to the gate but she would not come. It was only after I put on my long pants that she agreed to accompany me. She said, “I knew you would wear your long pants.”

Those words kept ringing in my ears all the way to the wedding. Even though I tried to distract her with my words and actions, she knew she would only accompany me to the wedding if I had on my long pants. She knew I wore shorts to the market but for this occasion, she knew I would not wear that. Her mind was made up irrespective of how much I tried to convince her.

How much do we know the Lord? How much are we willing to trust our God? Do we believe that in the midst of the pain? He is wholly on our side defending and taking care of us. And if God, the most powerful being in the universe, is for us, can anyone or anything come against us successfully?

Perhaps you feel like you have messed up big time. God wants you to know and believe that though others may be angry with you, He will never be angry with you. Neither will He condemn you. The sum total of His anger against your sins fell upon Jesus at the cross. So He wants you to know and believe that He will never punish you because Jesus was punished in your place.

Know and believe that your heavenly Father still offers you the gift of “no condemnation”. So come boldly to His throne of grace to obtain mercy and find grace.
