Coming to the Light Part – 2

John 3:19-21 —— And this is the condemnation,  that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.  But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”

Becoming a Christian is not so much a matter of adding Christ to your life as it is abandoning your life to find true life in Christ. And when one thus trusts in the person and work of Jesus Christ, the change is not small. It is a radical transformation. It is a change from death to life, from darkness to light.

Life without Christ is meaningless and ultimately ends in disaster. Hiding from Christ, the Light is an effort to keep our evil actions hidden. Those who put their effort into pleasing God don’t have to be ashamed of how they’ve spent their time Those who want to cling to evil hide from the light, those who want to be free from evil move into it.

There are two kinds of people who obey God
(1)       Those who love God.
(2)       Those that fear God and obey Him only to save themselves from evil. They believe that only by doing the Word the blessings will come. Which category do we fall into?

When God saved us, He opened the eyes of our understanding so that we saw our true condition as guilty sinners. We also saw the all-sufficiency of Jesus and His death on the cross to cover all our sins. We had a new understanding of God’s Word and a new desire to know God and His truth more and more.

We now hate the sin that we formerly lived in and we long to be like our Saviour, holy in all our ways. We now walk in the light, rather than in darkness, because God has made us light in the Lord.

A nurse in a hospital works for eight hours and is ready to go home at the end of her shift irrespective of the patients. However, this same nurse if her own child is sick will be ever willing to nurse the child continuously for as long as it takes for the child to be healthy again. She does not see the time or the effort because her actions are purely motivated by her love for her child.

Similarly, we who come to the light must do so because of our love for God and not because it is our duty. This love will then cause us to offer our entire life to God.

PEOPLE MAY NOT SAY THANK YOU. YOU MAY NOT GET THE CREDIT YOU DESERVE. NOBODY MAY BE GIVING YOU APPLAUSE. BUT REST ASSURED, WHEN YOU SERVE OTHERS, THERE IS APPLAUSE FOR YOU IN HEAVEN.
