Cultivating God’s Garden Part – 2

Hebrews 6:7-8 ——  For the earth which drinks in the rain that often comes upon it, and bears herbs useful for those by whom it is cultivated, receives blessing from God;  but if it bears thorns and briers, it is rejected and near to being cursed, whose end is to be burned.

The Word of God speaks to us, and the words of the world also speak to us. It is up to us to choose what to follow. As we listen to the Word of God our mind also begins to talks to us. You and I are able to bring forth a good harvest or bring forth thorns and thistles in our life.

Our choices flow out of our hearts, and therefore we must take care to guard them from contamination.

Proverbs 4:23 —– Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.

What’s the most effective way to contaminate a water supply? Poison it at its source. If you don’t guard your heart from the world’s values, you will be conformed to the world. It takes no more effort to be conformed to the world than it does to float downstream. To be transformed by the renewing of our minds is to swim upstream against the current. Renewing our minds requires conscious, deliberate effort.

Consider as an example a person suffering from diabetes yet loves sweet. You are unaware of his diabetic condition and generously buy an expensive cake on your visit to his home. His wife takes the cake, thanks you for it and goes into the kitchen with the cake. After you are gone what do you think will happen? First he may just want to take a look at the cake, just to see what colour and shape it is. After that his craving will only increase. He finds himself unable to resist and takes a small piece to eat. Thus he is only hurting himself.

In the same way, different situations and relationships of the world all talk to us in our mind. The devil knows if he can control our mind, he can also control our body too.

What we think in our mind decides what kind of harvest we will pick.  If our mind is filled with corruption, bitterness and offence our crop will still be thorns and thistles despite the numerous retreats we may attend.

Our harvest is determined according to our thinking!

Hence we must be extremely careful to bind every negative thought by the Word of God. When we do this we can expect a bountiful harvest.

We aren’t called to fill the pews with members. We are called to fill the world with disciples.
