Jesus the Lamb of God Part – 1

This is He of whom I said, ‘After  John 1:29-34 —- The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.’  I did not know Him; but that He should be revealed to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with water.”

And John bore witness, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him.  I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’  And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.”

That was a radical thing for John to say about a young Galilean carpenter to a bunch of Jewish people who for centuries had offered their sacrificial lambs at the temple! “This man is the One whom God has sent to be what all of those thousands of lambs over hundreds of years have symbolised! And He is not only the Lamb that God sent for Israel, but also for the whole world!”

Jesus is the supreme Lamb and the only Lamb that God has provided to take away our sins. There is no other. “Of God” means that God sent Jesus to bear our sins. He is God’s gift to us “Takes away” signifies “atonement, and that by substitution” He was made sin for us.  He died so that sinners who trust in Him will not incur God’s judgment.

Despite Jesus being the Son of God, He comes to John to be baptised and they are together. God wants and commands us to love one another. Satan wants us to hate one another. God wants us to feel a great deal of unity with other people; Satan wants there to be an issue between us–something, anything, to drive us apart.

Do you feel alienated from someone in your family, workplace, neighbourhood or church? Then Satan is already sowing the seeds of disunity. Do you outright hate someone in your circle of acquaintances and friends? Then Satan has already scored a victory and your relationship is already breaking apart. God then calls you to immediately work to restore the love that needs to exist between both of you.

God has called us to love, to serve and to minister to others. Do you love them? Are you growing in love for them? Wherever that love is diminishing, wherever that love is growing cold, Satan is pushing his way into your relationship and he may just be using you as his agent for disunity.
