1 John 5:4 —– For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.
In the Word of God, we find a full gallery of the pictures of faith. On every side, we see men and women who believed God, rested upon His promises and found Him to be true.
Abraham, Moses, Joshua, Daniel and Elijah in the Old Testament. The Apostle Peter, Paul and John in the New Testament are just a few names of heroes who had total faith in the promises of God.
We can read the promises of God, study the pictures of faith; but nothing happens until we put into practice our faith. When temptation comes our way, we must take the shield of faith and quench the fiery darts of the wicked.
When we are face to face with a great need, we must claim the promise of Mathew17:20 – So Jesus said to them, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.
The Word of God invites us to read, believe and walk the way of faith. We do not need to look to the next day but receive the promises as manna for each day. We are to take the promises, believe them and see that God means what He says. With this kind of power in us, we can enjoy life in any kind of storm.
If this is true, why do many of us not experience joy throughout the year?
Christmas comes and goes every year but we find ourselves in the same place with no joy or peace. Happy New Year is an expression that many of us will hear near the beginning of a new year. The word happy evokes visions of driving the right car, meeting the right person, living in that dream house, or vacationing in an exotic location. But what happens when the toys rust, when loved ones die, when health fails, when the money is gone, and the party is over? Often happiness flees and despair sets in.
Can we still have joy though things do not go right? We have to learn now through the Holy Scriptures that joy comes regardless of our situation and that happiness is only circumstantial.
If we find God’s purpose in our life, the more we serve in God’s Kingdom the more energetic we find ourselves and weakness and tiredness are feelings of the past because God empowers us through His Holy Spirit.
I can never stop praising and thanking God, because if it were not for the Word of God in my life, I would be hospitalised for depression. Only the Lord’s mercy and grace keeps me going till this day.
CHOOSING JOY IS BEING ABLE TO SEE GOD’S GOODNESS EVEN WHEN LIFE IS HARD AND MESSY.
