For God is not unjust; he will not overlook your work and the love that you showed for his sake in serving the saints, as you still do.
Our works should not be based on what we get out of it but what can we do for Jesus. Our love should be a blessing to others by sharing Gods love and peace to them. We must share Gods enlightenment that He has given to us freely.
It is not enough to do good works, it is important that the motivation be love.
The Pharisees too did good work. Matthew 23:5-7 says, “They do all their deeds to be seen by others; for they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long. They love to have the place of honor at banquets and the best seats in the synagogues, and to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces, and to have people call them rabbi.” They did good works so others could see them doing good and they can get benefits from others. They did it for respect, acknowledgment and favours from others.
Jesus tells us not to be motivated by men but Jesus’ love. God’s rain will come but what will be our thinking, the gifts are there. A person can do good works but with peoples praises being the motivation, now that person is walking in the flesh. They will not receive a reward from their Father in heaven. The works we do in secret the Father sees, with our heart condition being Jesus, the Lord is not unjust He will reward you.
In the Bible is a person named Nehemiah and worked for the king as a cup bearer. He got news that the temple in Jerusalem was in destruction. Nehemiah wanted to go and rebuild the gates of Jerusalem and the city. He did not have the resources but his heart was for his people, so he prayed to God. He prayed for favour of the king so he could go and build the city again.
As Nehemiah prayed he was filled with sorrow because of his peoples suffering, the king noticed and asked what had happened. He poured out his heart to the king and as he had prayed for favour, he set out the rebuild the city. His journey was under total protection of the king to and fro. Nehemiah came with soldiers of the king to rebuild the city.
Nehemiah laboured because he had love for his God and his people. When coming back the enemies wanted to kill of them again. When the walls were being built the workers had to also hold their weapon because the war would begin any time. God favour came upon them and in no time they built the wall. The whole city was built quickly that the enemy knew it was Gods hand.
If we love Jesus then we truly love his people, those who are broken and shattered. We must ask God for enlightenment, so that our life is a life of blessing so that we can go out and labour in Gods kingdom.
