Living a Fearless Life Part – 1

2 Timothy 1:7 – For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

Everyone knows what it is like to be afraid.  We all have things that we are afraid of.  For some it is a storm or heights or travelling by airplanes.  There are fears that also motivate us. Fear of failing in an exam make us work harder or fear of rejection makes us afraid to do anything that could draw criticism. The devil takes advantage of our fears.  He can keep us from being effective Christians and make us lead miserable lives.  He is a master at using our fears to stop us, to bind us and to rob us.

The Word of God clearly teaches us that fear is not just an emotion but it is a spirit. The Devil uses it to try and get access to our lives. This weapon is used to feed us lies and suggestions through which he tries to master our mind. However when we have the assurance of God’s love for us we cannot be defeated.  Do not give in to the devil. Stop believing in his lies that we cannot achieve anything in life.  Instead quote God’s Word which assures us that We can do all things through Christ who strengthen me” (Phil 4:13). The Bible is a storehouse of such scriptures.

I remember when I was in the seminary, my superiors told me that the day I have the assurance that God loves me, I will begin to live a very, very different life. As long as our focus is on God’s love nothing can separate us from God. The more we are filled with God kind of love the more we are filled with his presence and we tend to become fearless. This is a sign of our victory; it is that fellowship with the Holy Spirit that helps us develop that fearlessness through the Word of God

Reflection: Father you have a great calling for each one of us. We give you praise and we give you glory. You are calling each one of us by the power of Your Spirit. Father it is your will that we walk in faith, as it pleases you. You have not given us the Spirit of fear but you have given us the spirit of power, love and sound mind.

Only the prompting of the Holy Spirit can enable the believer to see God as the Father – Pope Francis.
