Romans 12:1 —- I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
We must never let the Christian life drift into a mere social agenda, because if God is left out, our mercy will be mere social agenda. We do no one good in the end if we are not worshiping and leading them to worship God in the acts of mercy that we do.
Making people comfortable or helping them feel good on the way to everlasting punishment, without the hope and the design that they see Christ in your good deeds is not mercy. Mercy must aim to make much of Christ. For no one is saved who doesn’t meet, experience and make much of Christ.
Sin demanded punishment, and according to the Old Testament, the slain animal represented God’s willingness to accept a substitute so that the worshiper might live and have an ongoing relationship of forgiveness and joy with God.
Christ brought to an end the Old Testament sacrifices for sin. He finished the great work of atonement by dying on the cross for our sins. His death cannot be improved on. All we have to do now is trust Him for that great work.
Isaiah 1:18 —– “Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the Lord, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool.
God forgive us, not because He has to, but because He wants to. He is the God of second chances. But it is also clear that God does not forgive those who are unwilling to obey His Word. God calls us because He knows we have sinned; He does not want us to remain hiding behind there. He wants to destroy the shackles of sins for our benefit.
Isaiah1:19 —– If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land;
The above scripture implores us to let God do something for us! Living under the Law is doing for God without His aid, assistance, or His works. Grace is God doing for us without our aid, assistance, or works. Growing in “Grace” means allowing God to do more for us without our aid, assistance, or works to help Him!
God is not looking for any co-producers of the Christian life or virtues. He is looking for distributers! God demands to be the SOLE PRODUCER! He holds the patent and trademark.
Christ by His Spirit desires to live FOR us! Jesus died FOR us to justify us. Jesus now wants to live FOR us to sanctify us. Live for us means His life is the PRODUCING life. When we believe in Christ and His Word, our life is to be a RECEIVING AND DISTRIBUTING life of God’s Word! It is a trusting and receiving life!
GRACE IS WHEN YOU GET THE GOOD THINGS YOU DON’T DESERVE. MERCY IS WHEN YOU ARE SPARED FROM THE BAD THINGS YOU DO DESERVE. GOD IS GENEROUS WITH BOTH
