Mercies of God Part – 2

Romans 12:1 —- I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

Under the Old Covenant, God accepted the sacrifices of animals. But these were just a foreshadowing of the sacrifice of the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ. Because of His ultimate, once-for-all-time sacrifice on the cross, the Old Testament sacrifices became obsolete and are no longer of any effect. (Hebrews 9: 11 – 12).

For those who are in Christ by virtue of their faith, the only acceptable worship is to offer ourselves completely to the Lord.

What does a living sacrifice look like in the practical sense? We are a living sacrifice for God by not being conformed to pleasures of this world.
Worldly pleasures can be grouped into three categories.

  1. Lust of the flesh – Everything that appeals to our five senses and satisfies our physical needs and involves excesses.

  1. Lust of the eyes – coveting what we see and don’t have and envying those who have what we want.

  1. The pride of life – defined by any ambition that puffs us up and causes us to put ourselves on the throne of our own lives.

How can we “NOT” be conformed to this world? By submitting to the Word of God and by worshipping God in Spirit and in truth.

When we worship God every day in spirit and truth, this worship brings sanctification and holiness. When every word and every action of ours pleases God, this is our worship. The more we practice this, the more by default we begin to develop the love of God. Our personal relationship with God is strengthened and His Spirit helps us to overcome the worldly pleasures.

When we submit to the Word of God, we crucify ourselves. This causes us to experience the love of God. Failure to develop the love walk is what will hinder us from experiencing the manifestation of God’s goodness in our lives. For every lock we need a key. The key is walking in the love of God and this key has the power to God’s goodness in our life. Then we will see the manifestation of the goodness of God.

The love of God is the preeminent force in the kingdom of God. Love holds undoubted superiority over all other forces. Love is the power for faith and all else to work. Without love, nothing will work.
