Offence Builds Strongholds Part – 4

2 Corinthians 10:4-5 ——– For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,  casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,
A stronghold in the mind is a spiritual fortress made of wrong thoughts, a fortified dwelling place where demonic forces can hide and operate in power against us. The ideas and thoughts that make up the stronghold are based on lies that challenge the truth of what God has revealed about Himself.

Here’s the picture: the Christian, wearing his spiritual armour and bearing his spiritual weapons, sets out to “conquer” the world for Christ, but he soon finds obstacles. The enemy has erected strongly fortified garrisons to resist the Truth and thwart God’s plan of redemption.

There is the fortress of human reasoning, reinforced with many subtle arguments and the pretence of logic. There is the castle of passion, with flaming battlements defended by lust, pleasure, and greed. And there is the pinnacle of pride, in which the human heart sits enthroned and revels in thoughts of its own excellence and sufficiency.

These are the strongholds in our life. But when we use the weapons of God’s choosing, we can attack the strongholds, and by the miraculous power of Christ, the walls are breached, and the bastions of sin and error are battered down. The victorious Christian enters the ruins and leads captive, as it were, every false theory and every human philosophy that had once proudly asserted its independence from God. Strongholds can only be broken through the Word of God!

Maybe we have led a bad life but through repentance, God gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit. Galatians 3:13 says Christ has redeemed from the curse of the law. If we believe the scripture we know we are not under a curse because Christ has set us free. Through the death of Jesus on the cross we are set free. He has brought us out of slavery from sin, sickness, defeat and death. Now we are no longer under a curse but Abraham’s blessings are promised to us.

Just because we have been set free, does not mean we go out and continue to sin. Sin always has consequences and by sinning, we harden our hearts towards God. We refuse to obey His Word despite seeing His work in our life.
The key to bringing down the strongholds Satan has constructed in our minds is the knowledge of God’s personality. Getting to know the true God and seeing how He views us in Christ will help to strengthen the inner man and tear down the lies Satan has fed us.
