Quality decisions move Jesus to get involved in the issues of our life.
Mark 5:22 ——- And behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue came, Jairus by name. And when he saw Him, he fell at His feet
Jairus was an official of the synagogue, and as such he was a man of influence and prestige, but when he came to Jesus he did so as a desperate father seeking to spare the life of his critically ill child.
Being a man of high office, he knew his reputation would be under the scanner if he went to meet Jesus yet he threw himself at Jesus’ feet.
Mark5: 23 – 24 — and begged Him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live.” So Jesus went with him, and a great multitude followed Him and thronged Him.
Jesus was not impressed with Jairus’ position and wealth. He did not care whether Jairus was a leader of the synagogue or not. But Jesus was impressed with Jairus’ quality decision to believe that only Jesus had the power to heal his daughter. He ended up going to Jairus’ house because of this quality decision. Jairus risked everything to trust in Jesus.
Mark 5:25-28 —— Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelveyears, and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.”
This woman too made a quality decision to touch the hem of Jesus’ garment. She could have been stoned to death for coming out in the open with her condition. Yet her faith in Jesus’ power to heal her causes her to make this quality decision.
While she is narrating her entire story to Jesus, Jairus is waiting patiently to accompany Jesus to his home. Jairus’ daughter is on the verge of death and here is the woman sharing her twelve-year long story with Jesus. Jairus influential as he was could have gotten her in trouble. But he is patient only focussing on Jesus.
Blessed are the merciful for they shall receive mercy, Jairus’ daughter was brought back to life.
