Keep your mind set on higher things (Colossians 3:1-2). The Word of God is the higher knowledge, get rid of our old way of thinking as it leads to bad behaviour (Colossians 3:9-10). God wants us to be like Jesus in character, be changed or transformed by the renewing of our mind (Romans 12:2).
So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth,
Have we been raised with Christ? The day we got baptised our old sin nature was put to death by the cross and we have been resurrected with Christ. This is why we have been born again.
How is the cross of Jesus going to destroy the sin the nature in us? We know that Adam was created in the likeness and image of God. Therefore Adam had the nature and character of God, but when he disobeyed God he fell from Gods glory. So in Adam came sin, not sins but sin. Sin is the power by which to rebel against God, God forgives us of our sin but if He has not destroyed sin then we will still rebel.
When a person is terminally ill, the sickness dies with the person. For our sin nature to do die, we must die. He took the sin nature of us and put it on Jesus. When Jesus died, we who were in Jesus also died and so the power of sin was destroyed. Jesus was buried and with the same power God has risen each one of us with Christ. We have trained this mind with the knowledge of sin that came from this world; those who are born again with Christ Jesus do not have the sin nature in them.
We only have the knowledge of sin in our mind, because of which we must use Gods Word to destroy that knowledge and replace it with His Word. When we renew our mind with the Word of God we find we are no longer committing those sins to which we were a slave to before. When the sin nature has been destroyed in us by the renewing of our mind, our mind is now making us walk in righteousness. Then we will seek those things which are above.
