Luke 4: 18 – 19
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the broken hearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”
I was introduced to a young man who was ill – he was vomiting blood. After he was healed by God, he insisted on maintaining this relationship with me. During that time, I would drive down to Goa to conduct retreats and this young man would drive us down. He would attend the retreat but could not understand the preaching which was in English. But not one to give up, after the retreat he would ask other people to explain what I taught.
The preaching was on Mathew 18:20 — For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” From the entire teaching what he understood and believed was that God was present in the midst of two people who prayed together.
On our return back to Bombay, he met up with his friend who was an alcoholic. He suggested that they should pray. They were two of them and he believed that Jesus was present, so he asked Jesus to help deliver this man from this evil and at the end of the pray, all he said was “Alleluia, Thank you Jesus”. The man was delivered.
News spread like wildfire. He visited people’s homes, irrespective of their religion and prayed with the poorest of the poor. He prayed with them, sang hymns and saw great and mighty changes.
A doctor who had his clinic in that area was really angry with him because now the people in that area did not feel the need for the doctor. So he challenged the boy to heal his own heart disease. The boy made this one request of the doctor, “Please allow me to use your dispensary for one hour after closing to preach the Word of God. The doctor agreed on condition he was healed. The boy explained to the doctor the scripture from Mathew 18:20 and told the doctor “Jesus is present here with you and me now. You only say, “Thank You for healing me.” The doctor did this and was healed and his reports were normal.
The one line from the scripture enlightened the young man. We may have read the scripture so many times but do we really believe it?
When I was a baby Christian, I was told that the bible is a bag of seeds – seeds of healing, prosperity, anointing and so many more. All we had to do was to plant these seeds in our heart. I memorised Luke 4:18-19 and I began to speak that at least 700 times. The next day I got a chance to share my testimony. After I finished my testimony, I was laying hands on the people and suddenly a deaf person came up to me to be prayed over. I remembered the above scripture – the Lord has sent me to declare sight to the blind, if He can do that, then why not give hearing to the deaf? All I said was, “Deaf spirit come out.” The deaf person could hear now! I was elated and started dancing and screaming. Everyone thought I was healed.
These same hands that I had used for sin and fighting, was now being used by God to heal others. I was excited and ran to the nearest phone booth to call and tell my wife that God used my hands to bring hearing to a deaf man. Within the next three days, thirteen people got healed using the same scripture.
The Power in the Word of God!
“You were made by God and for God, and until you understand that, life will never make sense.”
