Luke 24:14-15 – And they talked together of all these things which had happened. So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them.
We thank God when our prayers for our physical (temporary) needs are answered and we are sad when we have problems and difficulties.
What is the purpose of our problems and difficulty? God wants us to learn something. Every storm is a school. Every trial is a teacher. Every experience is an education. Every difficulty is for our development.
We need to develop a relationship with God and thank Him for all the Spiritual Blessings since they are eternal. If we develop such a relationship with God then even in our most difficult situation, we need not feel sad and depressed.
The early Christians kept joyful despite being persecuted because they believed in the unseen or spiritual blessings.
The two disciples were sad because in the physical world they saw that Jesus was crucified and died. Their sadness was based on their thinking.
I once met a lady who was suffering from cancer. I visited her and prayed with her. In the course of our conversation she told me that she had only three months more to live. But this thought did not sadden her because she believed in the spiritual blessings that were promised to her in the Word of God. She left Africa and came to India as an evangelist to proclaim God’s Word and she was continuing to do this , despite her illness. She knew that if she succumbed to this illness, she would die and be at rest with God, and if she lived, she could continue to preach the Word of God. Either way, it was a win-win situation for her.
Sadness is not based on circumstances but our thinking! Conforming our thinking to the Word of God is the only solution for last peace and joy.
